Clerk’s Office
The clerk’s position is vital to the overall operation of the township, including the management of all documents and records, both current and historical.
The township clerk is responsible for storing a variety of legal notices as well as the minutes of the monthly Board Meetings, Executive Sessions, and the Minutes of the Annual Town Meeting.
The clerk’s office files the tax levy and other ordinances with the office of the Cook County Clerk.
Everyone who moves into or within the Township or who becomes eligible to vote for the first time, should come to the Township Clerk’s office and register. You are required to bring two documents as to your current address and birth date. A driver’s license, Photo I.D., library card, birth certificate – any of these items would be acceptable.
The township clerk is the keeper of all township records. The clerk is required to maintain accurate records of all township board meetings and maintain records of the board’s executive sessions.
During the township board meetings, the clerk records all roll call votes and incorporates the vote as part of the minutes.
The clerk serves as the local authority and is responsible for accepting petitions concerning township elections and/or referendums.
As ex-officio clerk of the road district, the township clerk maintains all records for the highway commissioner. The clerk must also witness bid openings for both the township and the road district.
