What is FOIA?

The Freedom of Information Act allows the public to request access to certain records from government agencies.  The agencies are required to provide the requested information unless it falls under any of the exemptions which protect matters of personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement.

How do I make a FOIA request?

Submitting a FOIA request is an easy process; start by checking if the information you want is publicly available.  If not, simply send an email to clerk@brementownship.net and reasonably describe the records you seek.  We’ll send a confirmation that your request was received within one business day; the records will be provided within 3-5 business days depending on the request.

The fees associated with the production of documents can be found here.

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.) requires all public bodies in the State of Illinois to make non-exempt public records available for inspection and copying.  The Bremen Township not only strives to comply with the law, but also fully endorses the fundamental concept that all persons are entitled to full, accurate, and complete information regarding the affairs of the Township and the official acts and policies adopted by Township officials and public employees.  The Township recognizes that its desire for active and informed participation of its citizens in the public policy process necessitates as full and as free an access to this information as possible.  In determining the parameters of public access to information, the Township also understands its obligations to protect legitimate privacy interests and maintain the efficiency of its administrative operations.
